Job Overview

The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and organized Medical Support Secretary to join our team. As a key member of our administrative staff, you will provide exceptional support to our consultant surgeons and medical personnel, ensuring the smooth delivery of patient-focused healthcare services.

Main Duties
  • Provide secretarial support to consultant surgeons and medical personnel, including digital transcription of clinic letters and other correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate 18-week referral to treatment pathways for patients.
  • Transcribe and produce documents from digital dictation.
  • Manage patient investigation results and process health records of patients discharged from the hospital and ward round notes.
  • Input and extract data from the patient administration system Cerner, ICE, Winscribe, CRIS, etc.
  • Act as the primary contact for patients under designated consultants and communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Receive and manage telephone and personal enquiries from patients and internal and external departments.
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • GCSE English at level 4 or above or equivalent.
  • RSA/OCR II Typewriting.
  • RSA/OCR II Word.
  • RAS/OCR Audio Typewriting stage II.
Desirable Criteria
  • RSA/OCR Medical Audio-Typewriting stage II.
  • ECDL.
  • AMSPAR qualification.
ExperienceEssential Criteria
  • Good keyboard skills.
  • Secretarial experience normally minimum of 6 months or AMSPAR certificate.
  • Ability to understand, absorb, and comply with detailed procedures.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Audio-typewriting experience.
PersonalEssential Criteria
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and be supportive of team members.
  • Able to work to deadlines.
  • Proven ability to keep information confidential.
