An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Category Manager to join our team at Eh Smith (builders Merchants) Ltd., reporting to the Commercial Director. The role involves assisting in creating, delivering, and owning a clear and customer-focused strategy for product categories in Heavyside and Timber, to drive growth in customer sales, profit, and market share, in line with set management targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate supply agreements and manage suppliers in line with agreed SLA's and KPI's.
  • Develop long-term strategies for the ranges and products within your assigned categories.
  • Take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of your assigned categories, ensuring they meet the commercial performance criteria and targets set out by your Line Managers.
  • Ensure selling prices are in line with pricing policy set out by your Line Managers.
  • Build and develop trust relationships with suppliers to achieve better quality of service.
  • Forecast product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory and product supply.
  • Analyse data to determine industry and customer trends and identify business opportunities.
  • Work with the branches to specify what products will be stocked, where, and in what quantities.
  • Develop exit strategies for any unsuccessful products and work with the stock controllers and production team to keep stockholding to an optimal level.
  • Ensure aged stock products are kept to a minimum in line with set targets.
  • Communicate to sales/branch teams all relevant product and supplier information, including shortages and promotions.
