Main Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Children's Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our dynamic and progressive multidisciplinary team at Tameside General Hospital.

As a key member of the Liaison Mental Health service, you will be responsible for assessing patients' mental health needs, aiding access to appropriate services, and managing presenting risks. You will also ensure safe discharge of patients back to their GP where necessary.

Key duties include:

  1. Assessing patients' mental health needs and facilitating access to relevant services.
  2. Managing risks and liaising with family and agencies as required.
  3. Ensuring safe discharge of patients back to their GP.
  4. Participating in prioritization of referrals and management of workload.
  5. Providing effective, evidence-based assessments and short-term interventions for individuals requiring mental health services.
  6. Maintaining accurate record-keeping standards and inputting to information systems.
  7. Contributing to service development and participating in team business and practice meetings.
  8. Supporting learning outcomes for student placements within the team.
  9. Ensuring adherence to operational policies and participating in audits to monitor quality of care.
  10. Responding to police and NWAS requests via a bleep.
  11. Coordinating 136s in accordance with policy.
  12. Supporting the police and NWAS with follow-up for persistent mental health presenters.
  13. Maintaining documentation standards to support recording for the police and NWAS.
  14. Supporting the recording of performance information and identifying opportunities to enhance the role.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an expanding service offer, supported by additional investment. As a valued member of the liaison team, you will receive regular management and clinical supervision, as well as opportunities for CPD and involvement in service developments and quality improvement initiatives.

The service operates 24/7, and posts will be worked on a shift basis with 24-hour working required, including bank holidays, weekends, and some rotational night duties.
