Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small multi-disciplinary team of Human Factors professionals, providing expert advice and research to optimize the functioning of Royal Navy systems.

The successful candidate will manage the staff and resources of the Human Factors Group, supporting the integration of Human Factors principles within the Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence.

The Institute of Naval Medicine offers a range of on-site facilities, including a gymnasium, volleyball court, and medicinal garden, as well as a short walk from award-winning Georgian era gardens and a shingle beach with views of the Isle of Wight.

The post holder will be expected to provide Human Factors expertise to accident investigations, develop new work, and provide HF subject matter advice to RN and MOD customers.

Experience of line management of a multi-disciplinary team or multi-person research project is desirable for this post.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake line management responsibility for 2 HSO (C2 grade) post holders and 1 EO (D Grade) post as well as Countersigning Officer (CSO) responsibilities for 2 D grade posts.

The post holder will be expected to attend weekly divisional meetings to ensure the Head of Division and other Heads of Groups are appraised of the progress of work undertaken by the HF Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the staff and resources of the Human Factors Group
  • Provide Human Factors expertise to accident investigations
  • Develop new work and provide HF subject matter advice to RN and MOD customers
  • Support the integration of Human Factors principles within the Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence
  • Attend weekly divisional meetings to ensure the Head of Division and other Heads of Groups are appraised of the progress of work undertaken by the HF Group

Requirements

  • Chartered membership of either the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the Chartered Institute of Human Factors and Ergonomics (CIEHF)
  • Postgraduate qualification in either Ergonomics or Psychology
  • Experience of line management of a multi-disciplinary team or multi-person research project
