About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Manager/Quantity Surveyor to join our London Design Management group at Building Design Partnership. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in project delivery from day one, managing, monitoring, and driving the performance of projects in our London studio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan design delivery and monitor ongoing design-related activities
  • Work within the commercial and design management teams on cost and contract
  • Input into project risk registers and create detailed design programs
  • Track design activities against program, milestones, and project changes
  • Communicate challenges experienced in the design process with the Client's Project Management team and agree on resolutions
  • Drive the delivery of projects from inception to completion with work plans created with BDP team leaders
  • Report to BDP directors on progress and performance
  • Keep clients and project design teams informed of changes to scopes of work and coordinate contractual notifications
  • Assist the change team in reviewing changes, defining project impact, pricing changes, and identifying owners
  • Input into the monthly project reporting cycle and liaise with clients on monthly changes to cost, fee, resources, and scope
  • Identify resource gaps and determine resource requirements in conjunction with the Project Director and Design Leads
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced members of the design management team

Requirements

  • Preferred experience in Design, Construction, or Engineering environments
  • Ideal qualifications include a Diploma/Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, or related disciplines
  • Good understanding of contract operations and administration, e.g., NEC3/CIC/JTC
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organized and enthusiastic, with excellent time management skills
  • Team player and willingness to learn
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing project and team needs
  • Mathematical and commercial literacy is a must
  • Ability to think laterally and strategically
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Asta Powerproject is beneficial
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Exhibit a proactive, understanding, and flexible approach to dealing with issues
  • Have a friendly, professional manner and confidence in working with people at all levels
  • Act in a professional and confidential manner when dealing with BDP activities
  • Good team player, capable of working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality
