Senior Research and Development Engineer

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research and Development Engineer to join our Metrology Team based in Coventry.

This role will involve leading the technical delivery of projects, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, within agreed budgets and timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the technical delivery of projects, including concept generation, detailed design, and technical support of commissioning.
  • Contributing to the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial members premises.
  • Working with the team to develop and implement new technologies, including tactile measurement technologies, non-contact 3D point cloud gathering systems, and surface metrology technologies.

Requirements

  • Degree calibre engineer, technologist, scientist, or mathematician.
  • Ideal candidate will have working towards professional registration.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and application of technologies through previous project work.
  • Understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of various technologies and how they may be more appropriate to specific inspection applications.
  • Awareness of how metrology and inspection can support broader Digital Engineering / Industry 4.0 concepts.
