About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our Biomedical Scientists by performing a wide range of tasks associated with the processing of samples.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine analytical tasks and maintain instrument equipment in line with departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Perform basic clerical duties, including data inputting and phone enquiries, to support sample testing and reporting on the laboratory computer system.
  • Organize the regular transport of samples, goods, and post to other sites and laboratories.
  • Manage stock control and maintenance of reagents and consumables in the working environment.
  • Adhere to information governance policies, maintaining confidentiality, security, and safety standards in line with national and local guidelines.
  • Train new starters and act as a role model, ensuring all team members prioritize policies and procedures related to infection control.

Requirements

  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible and organized approach to the working day.
