About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in the Microbiology laboratory at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the Biomedical Scientists by performing a wide range of tasks associated with the processing of samples.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine analytical tasks and be responsible for instrument maintenance and housekeeping in line with departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake basic clerical duties, including data inputting and phone enquiries, to support sample testing and reporting on the laboratory computer system.
  • Organize the regular transport of samples, goods, and post to other sites and laboratories.
  • Stock control and maintenance of reagents and consumables in the working environment.
  • Adhere to information governance policies, including maintaining standards of confidentiality, security, and safety in line with national and local guidelines.
  • Train new starters and act as a role model to ensure that all team members and others visiting the area give a high priority to policies and procedures relating to infection control.
