Orthoptist Specialist

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is seeking an experienced Orthoptist Specialist to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking the investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients referred to the Orthoptic Department at Bristol Eye Hospital and Weston General Hospital.
The ideal candidate will have relevant Orthoptic experience in acute and community settings, with a strong background in the diagnosis and management of adults and children of all ages. They will also have competence in the use of various visual field analysers and be able to interpret results.
The post holder will be based at the Eye Hospital but will also travel to community sites and assessment centres in and around Bristol and to Weston General Hospital. The workload at the Eye Hospital will include specialist paediatric and paediatric neuro-ophthalmology clinics, motility and adnexal clinics, adult neuro-ophthalmology, stroke and brain injury assessments, and on-site adjustable suture assessments.
The department actively supports extended roles in the skull base neuro-ophthalmology. The successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner who can work independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake the investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients referred to the Orthoptic Department.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Develop and maintain skills and knowledge in Orthoptics to ensure best practice.
Person Specification:
- BSc Orthoptics or equivalent.
- Relevant Orthoptic experience in acute and community settings.
- Strong background in the diagnosis and management of adults and children of all ages.
- Competence in the use of various visual field analysers.
Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a year per annum pro rata (depending on experience).
