Orthoptist Specialist Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Orthoptist Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. As an Orthoptist Specialist, you will be responsible for undertaking the investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients referred to the Orthoptic Department at Bristol Eye Hospital and Weston General Hospital.

The successful candidate will have a broad and detailed knowledge of visual and ocular motility defects, with proven and relevant CPD. They will also have excellent observational, analytical, and reflective skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The role will involve working with a wide range of complex cases from general and speciality clinics, including paediatric, motility, neurology, adnexal, and Accident and Emergency. The successful candidate will be able to communicate information that may be sensitive or hard to accept or understand in a sympathetic and empathetic manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, diagnose, and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic Department
  • Work with a wide range of complex cases from general and speciality clinics
  • Communicate information in a sympathetic and empathetic manner
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care

Requirements:

  • BSc Orthoptics or Equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Teaching qualification
  • Relevant Orthoptic experience in acute and community settings
  • Competence in the use of a variety of visual field analysers
