Job Summary
The Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group is seeking a skilled Estates Building Maintenance Worker/Carpenter to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our buildings and facilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to buildings and facilities, including carpentry and joinery work.
- Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and take proactive measures to prevent problems.
- Work with other tradespeople to ensure that all maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure that all buildings and facilities are properly maintained.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Requirements
- Apprenticeship in a relevant trade with a minimum of a City and Guilds advanced craft certificate or BTEC in a relevant building maintenance trade.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in general building maintenance, outside of core trades such as painting and decorating, carpentry, and joinery.
- Good understanding of the relationship between other craftsmen's work and their own.
- Experience of maintenance carpentry and building in a range of settings.
- Basic electrical safety training to be able to fulfill duties without support from other trades.
- Ability to interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and specifications without supervision.
- Ability to set out new work or set up new production using relevant instruments and machinery without supervision.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools.
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum 5 years' experience working in a complex building maintenance environment.
- Basic electrical safety training to be able to fulfill duties without support from other trades.
- Understanding of the working of mechanical and/or electrical and/or plumbing and/or gas systems in NHS buildings.
- Experience working in a healthcare environment.
- Joinery ability.
- Ability to diagnose and repair faults in basic electrical systems.
- Ability to support and assist with engineering emergencies using own initiative.
- Ability to glaze windows, fit and maintain locks.
Knowledge and Skills
- Health and safety training.
- Good knowledge of carpentry and joinery techniques.
- Electrical training.
- Water supply training.
- Environment health and safety training.
