This is an exciting opportunity to join the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) as a Graduate Research Scientist at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE).
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and inquisitive individual with a strong academic background in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical/Process, Materials Science or a relevant STEM discipline. As a Graduate Research Scientist, you will play a key role in the development of professional skills and contribute to high-impact research and development programmes.

About the Team

You will be part of the Tritium Fuel Cycle Division, which designs, delivers, and operates cutting-edge tritium life cycle facilities. The team is responsible for developing productive collaborations and growing a community of experts through the sharing and assimilating of knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete a core suite of tasks and work activities designed to develop professional skills;
  • Work on projects related to fuel cycle and unit operation modelling;
  • Conduct scientific experiments, including project planning, experimental purchasing, build and commissioning, experimental operation, and analysis of results;
  • Generate scientific reports, papers, and present findings at conferences;
  • Define student and secondee projects;
  • Engage in active information sharing with staff and students, define, and oversee Early Career projects;
  • Work in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by your manager.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent level in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical/Process, Materials Science or a relevant STEM discipline;
  • A highly inquisitive personality that can question existing scientific models but also express themselves clearly through high-quality written deliverables;
  • The ability to learn how to define, structure, and deliver small projects and manage delivery of their own work;
