Job Title: Characterisation Lead

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Characterisation Lead to join our team at Rullion. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the characterisation of radioactive waste, ensuring that all work is carried out to the highest standards and in compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the characterisation of radioactive waste, including the development of sampling plans and the analysis of radiological data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to ensure that all work meets the required standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations and industry developments.

Requirements:

  • Degree in a scientific or engineering-based subject and/or relevant experience in the field of nuclear decommissioning.
  • Knowledge of radiological sampling technical requirements, including DQO methodology and sampling plans.
  • Practical knowledge of the characterisation lifecycle, including sampling methods, preservation of radionuclides prior to analysis, and storage, chain of custody, and data requirements for consignment of samples offsite.
  • Knowledge of radiochemical analysis results, including high-level assessment of likely errors.
  • Able to obtain SC clearance.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of characterisation for non-radiological contaminants, including interpretation of surveying and sampling data.
  • Experience in the transport of dangerous goods and/or a DGSA qualification.
