Consultant in Community Paediatrics Specialist

The successful candidate will work as a Consultant in Community Paediatrics, providing a Consultant-led service with the highest standard of care. They will collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues, other departments, and primary care on the Isle of Wight and in Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
The post holder will offer educational, clinical support, and leadership to nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. They will ensure appropriate information is made available to staff to measure clinical performance and enable meaningful benchmarks to be established and evaluated within their area of responsibility.
The Consultant will also ensure there is a robust process for reviewing the quality of services provided, explaining the causes of success and failure, and ensuring the highest standards are maintained.
Key Duties- Provide cover as an ENT surgeon with a special interest in paediatrics.
- Provide an out-of-hours on-call service.
- Teach and train staff in other medical disciplines, nursing, and support staff as appropriate.
- Issue advice to GPs on the suitability of patients for referral to hospital.
- Work with local clinical and operational managers to contribute to the efficient running of services.
- Share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management within their supporting professional activities.
- MBBS or equivalent qualification.
- Membership with the relevant Royal College.
- GMC registration and licence to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in ENT via European Community rights.
- Demonstrate a good level of clinical experience and competence in paediatrics.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and able to perform supportive diagnostic work.
- Able to perform outpatient diagnostic procedures, including nasal endoscopes.
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to the specialty.
- Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues.
- Ability to develop services.
- Attendance at recognised management course.
- Energy and enthusiasm, with the ability to work under pressure.
- An enquiring and critical approach to work.
- Caring attitude to patients.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other staff and agencies.
- Commitment to continuing medical education and professional development.
