Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Bereavement Support Specialist to join our team at Child Bereavement UK. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality bereavement support to individuals, couples, families, and groups across Edinburgh and the Forth Valley.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to support the Bereavement Support Service Lead in Scotland in the provision and evaluation of our developing and extending service. You will work closely with our team to ensure families and professionals can access high-quality bereavement support in situations where a baby or child has died, or where children or young people up to the age of 25 are bereaved.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Establish Service: Support the Bereavement Support Service Lead in establishing our service as a trusted source of advice and support for families and professionals.
  • Caseload Management: Manage a caseload and provide a programme of individual and couple sessions, as well as develop and facilitate groups for parents bereaved of a baby or child.
  • Programme Delivery: Contribute to the provision of a programme of individual and family support sessions, groups for families, groups for young people, and school liaison.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Outreach with diverse organisations and community groups, including BAME and LGBTQ+ organisations, to positively support inclusion and engagement.
  • Volunteer Support: Support the Bereavement Support Service Lead in selecting, training, and supporting volunteers for the Bereavement Service.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A recognised health, social care, or counselling qualification.
  • Experience in working with children, young people, and families.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A passion for supporting bereaved families and those whose roles bring them into contact with these families.

The salary for this position is £28,000 per annum (fixed-term contract until 15 September 2027).
