About This Role
As a Specialist Caseworker within our Emergency Department team at Newham Hospital, you will play a crucial role in supporting young people admitted to the hospital. You'll provide comprehensive assistance throughout their stay and ensure a smooth transition back into the community upon discharge.
Your Responsibilities
- Offer peer support and guidance to the team, including deputizing for the Senior Caseworker when needed.
- Collaborate with the Data Coordinator and Senior Caseworker to gather information and monitor project progress.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive resource of suitable onward referrals for young people.
- Build strong relationships with clinicians, hospital staff, and other relevant services within the hospital, such as CAMHS, IDVA, and COMPASS.
- Identify and assess young victims of violence, creating tailored support and risk management plans.
- Provide ongoing support, advice, and advocacy to children, young people, and their families during their hospital stay and discharge planning.
- Deliver a holistic support service, encompassing practical assistance such as social and housing support, appointment accompaniment, ETE options, benefits guidance, debt advice, and court representation.
What We're Looking For
- Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the challenges faced by this client group, or prior experience working with 'high-risk', vulnerable children.
- Proven experience in providing support, advice, and advocacy to young people.
- Extensive experience in assessing the needs of at-risk youth and developing effective intervention strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multi-agency team to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
- Experience utilizing support plans to facilitate access to essential services for individuals in need.
- Proven success in engaging with 'challenging' young people and building rapport.
- Excellent IT, prioritization, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- A flexible, collaborative, and professional approach to your work.
As an organization committed to safeguarding the well-being of children and adults at risk, successful applicants will require an Enhanced Child and Adult with Child Barred DBS Check.
