Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Development and Communications Director to join our team at Community Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our development program, particularly major gifts and campaign efforts, to increase philanthropic support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement a metrics-driven major gift program, working closely with the Head of School and Board of Directors.
  • Identify and cultivate major gift prospects, engaging school leadership to add value.
  • Support the Head of School in meeting with potential and current individual donors, foundation representatives, and corporate partners.
  • Maintain frequent personal contact and communication with prospects, donors, board members, and other key constituents to strengthen relationships.
  • Advise on strategic communication activities to support relationships between the school and its external constituents.
  • Oversee grant writing and reporting to funders.
  • Manage the donor database and ensure consistent database use across the school.
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees, Development Committee, and other volunteer leadership teams as assigned by the Head of School.
  • Write monthly newsletters, create content, and oversee social media accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to track EITC/OSTC scholarship donations and manage donor engagement with scholarship donors.
  • Plan virtual and in-person fundraising events, solicit sponsorships.
  • Create marketing materials and collaborate on web design, branding, and website updates with the IT team.
  • Manage all media inquiries, write press releases, and help prepare students and team members for press appearances.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills, as well as creative and innovative approaches to philanthropy. Experience with fundraising databases and proficiency in Microsoft Office are also essential.
