Job Overview

As a SHEQ Leadership Specialist, you will report directly to the Head of SHEQ OCU Energy Services for all health safety quality and environmental aspects affecting the business. This includes advising on SHEQ matters, completing monthly reports, and conducting regular meetings with the SHEQ team and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify potential SHEQ legislative changes and provide guidance on their impact and necessary actions for compliance.
  • Conduct reviews, audits, and inspections of SHEQ matters and report areas of concern.
  • Provide SHEQ information and advice at operational, business, and cultural levels.
  • Establish achievable standards that can be measured and improve the SHEQ performance of business operations.
  • Recognize the need for SHEQ training and implement courses as required, both internally and externally.
  • Liaise with Client/Client Representative Health and Safety/SHEQ leads.
  • Produce a monthly performance report and submit it to the Line Manager for review.
  • Be available to the SHEQ team for advice and information.
  • Implement SHEQ initiatives.
  • Chair monthly health and safety meetings to discuss ongoing performance and identify areas for improvement, including minutes outlining actions to be taken.
  • Analyze near-miss reports and ensure modifications are made to address issues.
  • Communicate safety alerts/instructions to all in a timely manner to ensure improvements are implemented into business operations.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Ensure effective systems, arrangements, and supervision for providing a safe workplace and suitable welfare facilities at operations and sites under control.
  • Produce, review, update, and amend safe systems of work to ensure they are safe without risk to health, recording changes in Project Health and Safety Plans.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement necessary training for project personnel, emphasizing new and young personnel and those involved in high-risk activities.
  • Ensure all project personnel receive induction training before commencing work and regular toolbox training.
  • Undertake risk assessments for every activity and develop, maintain, and communicate safe systems of work to all personnel undertaking the activity.
  • Review completed activities with appropriate risk assessments/method statements and make recommendations for improvements from lessons learned.
  • Guarantee an effective system of consulting with all employees and subcontractors in workplaces.
  • Accompany anyone without a valid CSCS Card if access to a construction site is required.
  • Investigate all accidents and incidents, communicating findings to relevant personnel.
  • Demonstrate commitment to SHEQ principles.
  • Support the Head of SHEQ in continuous improvement of the OCU Group SHEQ Management system and development of processes.
  • Notify the Plant/Transport Manager and Safety Advisor when changes to plant/transport affect safety.
  • Share lessons learned and good practice with personnel.
  • Stop operations considered unsafe, damaging to the environment, or compromising quality.

Estimated Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.

This role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer skills. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and visitors are essential. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively are also required.

Requirements:

  • Level 6 equivalent (degree diploma or NVQ equivalent)
  • Environmental awareness and management
  • CDM awareness

Desirable Skills:

  • OHL experience
  • NRSWA
