Job Title: Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Apple Orchard. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to young people in our residential homes.

About the Role:

This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires a high level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and understanding. You will work closely with our young people, providing individualized support and guidance to help them achieve their goals and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the care and welfare of each child in the home, ensuring their individual developmental needs are met.
  • Plan and prepare activities that stimulate learning and integration within the home.
  • Stay up-to-date with legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure compliance with the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and national minimum standards.
  • Support and lead Residential Support Workers, ensuring all staff comply with policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities and placing authorities to ensure the care provided is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers, supporting young people's learning and development.
  • Be flexible with working practices, undertaking domestic tasks as needed, including meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager and staff team to ensure the home's philosophy is fulfilled and concerns are raised accordingly.
  • Keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring entries are non-stigmatising and distinguished between fact, opinion, and third-party information.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with teenage boys or challenging behavior, with a willingness to further develop skills.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not viable due to the rural location.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards a required qualification.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including days, evenings, and weekends, with every other weekend off.
  • Ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets individual needs.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, follow delegated tasks, and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to engage and listen.
