Lead Computational Geoscientist

Net-Zero Geosystems is a pioneering start-up dedicated to developing cutting-edge geoscientific simulation tools and services for CO2 storage, geothermal energy, radioactive waste disposal, hydrogen storage, and the permanent abandonment of oil & gas wells.
The RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Computational Geoscientist to drive the delivery and technical strategy of our R&D and applied projects, aligning them with our business goals. As a key member of our team, you will lead a team of engineers, deliver innovative software, undertake scientific research, and apply our technology for our clients' operations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement technical strategies for R&D and applied projects in line with business objectives.
- Provide technical guidance to a team of engineers and developers, fostering a collaborative and continuous learning environment.
- Lead the delivery of work packages, write deliverable descriptions, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Develop new software, physics models, theory documents, experimental, and applied studies.
- Present research outcomes, project milestones, and development progress to the team, external stakeholders, and the industrial and scientific community.
We are looking for an exceptional team player with extensive experience in developing numerical methods and physics solvers (FEM, FDM, FVM...), advanced Python/C++ skills, strong mathematics skills, knowledge of solid & fluid mechanics theory, and a background in Geosciences. The ideal candidate should have:
- Leadership experience.
- Empathy and compassion.
- Scientific rigour, attention to detail, and creative thinking.
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- A track record of delivering and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Python/C++, Paraview, Linux, LaTeX, and Git.
- Experience in deriving partial differential equations, developing implicit solvers (for thermo-hydro-mechanical and chemical coupled physics).
- Experience in developing finite element, finite volume, and finite difference methods.
- A background in Geoscience, particularly petroleum engineering.
- A yearly salary between £55,000 and £65,000.
- Options shares in Net-Zero Geosystems.
- Flexible working hours.
- Remote working.
- 25 days holiday (excluding bank holidays).
