As a key member of our team, your primary responsibility will be to cultivate an inviting atmosphere in our cafes, ensuring they are vibrant and engaging spaces for our community. You will oversee daily operations, maintaining our exceptional standards for service and compliance consistently. This pivotal role contributes to the overall mission of our organization, fostering an environment of well-being and learning. Your leadership will be essential in ensuring our cafes not only cover their operational costs but also create a broader positive impact within the community. You will collaborate with various teams, building strong relationships and embracing innovative approaches to achieve success.

This is a part-time position, requiring your expertise from Monday to Wednesday for a period of six months.

As a Café Operations Manager, your daily responsibilities may include:

Overseeing the daily operations of the café, ensuring excellent service, affordable offerings, and a welcoming environment for all patrons. Managing the entire process from procurement of compliant supplies, food preparation, marketing, sales, and customer service, to cash handling, banking, inventory checks, end-of-day cleaning, and financial reporting. Collaborating with the delivery coordinator to manage the weekly staffing schedule, ensuring the café is adequately staffed with qualified personnel, volunteers, and learners. Ensuring the café meets established targets for revenue, volunteer engagement, learner participation, and customer attendance. Exploring innovative strategies to enhance café offerings, ensuring they are financially sustainable and meet the needs of the local community. Working alongside fellow supervisors to develop a menu that emphasizes affordable, fresh, and nutritious options, while also planning wellness activities that promote engagement and align with our broader program objectives. Preparing food and beverages in accordance with all relevant regulations and standards, including expert Barista coffee preparation, while upholding the highest levels of food safety and hygiene. Supporting café staff (paid, volunteer, and student) in developing their skills in café management. Recruiting and mentoring volunteers and learners to help them build confidence, skills, and qualifications to reach their potential. Leading and inspiring the café team to continuously enhance their capabilities in meeting quality and performance benchmarks. Delivering café-based educational opportunities for individuals seeking to gain skills and experience in hospitality or retail, overseeing their progress and ensuring they are prepared for assessments and certifications. Creating lesson plans, educational materials, and maintaining documentation for monitoring and evaluation purposes. Organizing events, workshops, and activities within the café to increase service cross-promotion, generate revenue, and encourage participation in learning opportunities that benefit our customer base.

Essential qualifications include:

A minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent). Proven experience in catering, hospitality, or retail management. Basic culinary skills, supported by relevant qualifications. Qualification in a relevant subject or occupational area to at least Level 2. Food Safety certification to at least Level 2, or a willingness to obtain it promptly. Understanding of the processes and protocols necessary to maintain high food safety and hygiene standards. Familiarity with various educational course types and an understanding of the challenges some learners face. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment under pressure. A genuine commitment to supporting the long-term unemployed in achieving personal and professional success. A positive, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude, with a passion for helping others. Proven ability to cultivate strong working relationships. A solid understanding of Health and Safety regulations alongside commercial awareness. Knowledge of how volunteering and work experience can enhance skills and opportunities for individuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including basic math skills for budgeting and cash handling. A passion for motivating, coaching, and supporting individuals to achieve success, fostering networks and facilitating change. A personable approach, adept at building relationships with individuals and organizations. Resilience in facing the challenges of working in education, support, and employment sectors, with a focus on making a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Additional preferred qualifications:

Experience in sales or a target-driven environment, or managing a small business to understand the commercial aspects of the role. Level Three in Information, Advice, and Guidance. Previous experience with government or charitable funded projects, familiar with evidence gathering and performance monitoring. A strong background in frontline services, with extensive experience to support this. Proficiency in baking and cooking, with the ability to source ingredients cost-effectively through negotiation. Experience in financial management or budgeting, including cash handling processes.
