As a Café Operations Manager, your primary responsibility is to cultivate an inviting atmosphere that encourages patrons to visit our cafés. You will oversee daily operations, ensuring that we consistently meet our high standards for service and compliance. This pivotal role guarantees that our café serves as a hub for wellbeing and learning, contributing significantly to our broader mission. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the café remains financially sustainable while creating a positive impact on the community. Your ability to build strong relationships across teams will be essential, and you should be open to innovative approaches to achieve success.

This is a part-time position, working from Monday to Wednesday for a duration of six months.

As a Café Operations Manager, your daily tasks may include:

  • Overseeing the daily operations of the café, providing exceptional service, affordable offerings, and a welcoming environment for all visitors.
  • Managing all processes from procurement and supply chain management to food preparation, marketing, sales, cash handling, and financial reconciliation.
  • Collaborating with the delivery coordinator to maintain an effective weekly schedule, ensuring the café is staffed with qualified personnel, volunteers, and learners.
  • Meeting sales and recruitment objectives for income, volunteers, learners, and customer attendance.
  • Innovating to enhance café offerings, ensuring they are commercially viable and meet the needs of the local community.
  • Working alongside fellow supervisors to develop a menu that emphasizes affordable, fresh, and healthy options, while planning activities that promote wellness and engagement.
  • Preparing food and beverages in compliance with all health regulations and standards, including Barista coffee, while upholding exceptional food hygiene practices.
  • Mentoring café staff (paid, voluntary, and students) to enhance their skills in café management.
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers and learners to build their confidence, skills, and qualifications.
  • Leading and inspiring the café team to continuously improve and meet quality and performance benchmarks.
  • Delivering café-based training to individuals seeking to gain skills and experience in hospitality or retail, managing their learning journey from start to finish.
  • Developing lesson plans and educational materials for each session, ensuring they are available for review and monitoring.
  • Organizing events, workshops, and activities in the café to promote our services, generate income, and encourage participation in learning opportunities.

Key Qualifications:

  • A minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • Experience in catering, hospitality, or retail management.
  • Basic culinary skills, with relevant qualifications.
  • Qualification in a relevant subject or field at Level 2 or higher.
  • Food Safety certification at Level 2 or willingness to obtain it promptly.
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Familiarity with various educational course types and the challenges some learners face.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting the long-term unemployed in achieving their goals.
  • A positive, energetic attitude with a passion for helping others.
  • Proven skills in building effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and commercial awareness.
  • Understanding of how volunteering and work experience can enhance skills and opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including basic math for budgeting and cash handling.
  • Enjoyment in motivating and coaching individuals to succeed, fostering networks, and facilitating change.
  • A personable approach to relationship-building with individuals and organizations.
  • Resilience in the face of challenges within the education, support, and employment sectors.
