In your role as a Café Operations Manager, your daily tasks may include:
Overseeing the daily operations of the café, providing exceptional service, affordable offerings, and a welcoming environment for patrons. Managing all processes from procurement of compliant supplies, food preparation, marketing, sales, and customer service, to financial reconciliation and reporting. Collaborating with the delivery coordinator to manage the weekly staffing schedule, ensuring the café is staffed with qualified personnel, volunteers, and learners. Meeting sales and recruitment targets for income, volunteers, learners, and café visitors. Innovating to enhance café offerings, ensuring they are financially viable and cater to the local community's needs. Partnering with fellow supervisors to develop a menu focused on affordable, fresh, and nutritious options, while planning wellness activities that encourage community participation. Preparing food and beverages in compliance with all regulations and standards, including high-quality coffee, while ensuring all staff understand hygiene and food safety standards. Mentoring café staff (paid, volunteer, and student) to enhance their skills in café management. Recruiting and guiding volunteers and learners to build their confidence, skills, and qualifications. Leading and inspiring the café team to continuously improve and achieve quality and performance objectives. Facilitating café-based learning opportunities for individuals seeking to gain skills and experience in hospitality or retail, overseeing their progress and assessments. Developing lesson plans and materials for training sessions, ensuring they are available for review and monitoring. Organizing events, workshops, and activities in the café to promote our services, generate income, and encourage participation in learning opportunities.Key Qualifications:
A minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent). Proven experience in catering, hospitality, or retail management. Basic culinary skills, with relevant qualifications. Qualification in a relevant subject or field at Level 2 or higher. Food Safety certification at Level 2 or willingness to obtain it promptly. Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations. Familiarity with various educational course types and the challenges some learners face. Ability to work collaboratively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. A genuine commitment to supporting the long-term unemployed in achieving their goals. A positive, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude towards helping others. Proven ability to build strong working relationships. A solid understanding of Health and Safety regulations and commercial principles. Knowledge of how volunteering and work experience can enhance skill development. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including basic math for budgeting and cash handling. A passion for motivating and coaching individuals to succeed, fostering networks, and facilitating change. A personable approach to building relationships with individuals and organizations.
