Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Institute of Mathematics and its Applications Full time

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications is seeking a highly skilled Quantum Computing Theorist to lead new projects in achieving practical quantum advantage using early quantum computers. As part of the Mathematical Institute's lively research environment, you will be expected to guide junior colleagues and contribute to both analytical work and numerical computations.

The position is fixed-term until 30th June 2027, funded by a research grant from the EPSRC project SEEQA and UKRI FLF Project Theory to Enable Practical Quantum Advantage. With flexible starting dates, this opportunity allows you to join our team at a time that suits your needs.

You will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline, with sufficient specialist knowledge to work within established research programmes. Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

Benefits include the chance to contribute to cutting-edge research, collaboration with a talented team, and opportunities to teach and develop your skills. You will also have access to significant HPC resources, allowing you to deploy classical supercomputers to improve the performance of early quantum computers.

As a leading figure in the field of quantum information theory, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our understanding of quantum computing. With a salary range of approximately £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience, this is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and exceptionally talented individual to take the lead in shaping the future of quantum computing.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about quantum computing, has excellent communication skills, and can motivate and guide junior colleagues. If you are a team player with a strong academic background and a drive to succeed, we encourage you to apply.
