Job Description

As a Communications Specialist at the Department for Work and Pensions, you will play a crucial role in shaping the department's public image and reputation. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement effective communication strategies to engage with various stakeholders, including the media, government officials, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Media Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media outlets to ensure accurate and timely communication of the department's policies and initiatives.
  • Public Affairs: Provide strategic advice to senior officials on public affairs and media relations, ensuring that the department's message is conveyed effectively to the public and the media.
  • Communication Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans to support the department's policies and initiatives, including the creation of press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials.
  • Crisis Communications: Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage and respond to media inquiries and public concerns during times of crisis or controversy.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with various stakeholders, including government officials, media representatives, and the public, to build relationships and promote the department's policies and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Education: A degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field is required.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective communication strategies.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of media relations, public affairs, and communication planning principles and practices.
Working Conditions

The Communications Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
