Unlock Your Best Work Life

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse role at HMP Lewes to join our team. HMP Lewes is a category B male prison located near the centre of the historical town of Lewes, which is just a 5-minute walk away.

Due to HMP Lewes holding remand prisoners, we require staff to work on a rota basis and may ask you to work nights, bank holidays, and weekends. If you are looking for flexibility, we can discuss this at the interview stage.

You will receive an annual salary up to £49,770, depending on your experience.

To support you in your role, we offer:

  • Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course
  • Competency framework
  • Regional and national career development opportunities
  • Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
  • Support from the wider team

Candidates must have a Legal right to work in the UK on a permanent basis, and offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main Duties

As a Senior Mental Health Nurse, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent hospital admissions. You will undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and conduct reception screening. You will also ensure that you assess physical and mental health needs using an evidence-based framework and make clinical judgments regarding immediate and long-term treatment.
