As our fleet continues to expand, we are seeking an additional Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician to become part of our team in Newcastle. Reporting directly to the Depot Manager, the Technician will be tasked with the maintenance, inspection, repair, and testing of the Company's fleet of heavy goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, plant, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, inspections, repairs, and testing on GCU's vehicles, plant, and equipment, including fault diagnosis.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections on all heavy goods vehicles in accordance with DVSA inspection manual standards.
  • Diagnose issues on complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Prepare and present vehicles for 6-weekly inspections and annual MOT inspections.
  • Respond to broken-down or accident-damaged vehicles to carry out necessary repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and Health and Safety protocols.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Time served (City and Guilds) or equivalent qualifications, preferably with an IRTEC Commercial Inspection Qualification.
  • Possession of an HGV license category C at a minimum is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a relevant Technician role.
  • Understanding of workshop health and safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in using computer systems for compliance record keeping.
