Leading Facilities and Buildings Management at The RSA

The RSA is embarking on the next chapter in its 260-year history of social impact, with a range of interventions to unite people and ideas to turn world-changing ideas into world-changing actions.

We're seeking a Head of Facilities to lead the maintenance and management of all buildings and facilities services and take responsibility for health and safety and security within our historic RSA House.

The House comprises 8 floors, including Grade I and II listed spaces, with 3 office floors, large public spaces, and venue hire for up to 500 visitors and guests. We have a Coffee House, cinema, and many historical rooms, including 'The Great Room,' displaying James Barry's murals 'The Progress of Human Knowledge and Culture.'

The successful candidate will have extensive facilities management experience, managing others to deliver a comprehensive buildings service. They will be responsible for developing and managing a sizeable facilities budget, negotiating with and supervising external suppliers and contractors, and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, building regulations, and other relevant legislation and best-practice guidance.

The Key Areas of Focus

  1. Direct, plan, and ensure the successful implementation of all maintenance works for RSA House, both internally and externally, including the structural aspects of the building, all services, including electrical works, and all fixtures and fittings.
  2. Lead the facilities team to ensure a secure 24/7 facilities service is available for RSA House to service our wide-ranging activities, including those of our catering and hospitality partners.
  3. Ensure compliance with health and safety, buildings, equality, sustainability, environmental, and other relevant legislation to ensure our building is safe, compliant, and run in line with the latest best practice and in service of the diverse groups we engage with.
  4. Efficiently manage the sizeable facilities budget, including operational and capital expenditure.
  5. Maintain a continual focus on sustainability to ensure all facilities work is undertaken with the RSA's regenerative mission front and centre, focusing on the green agenda.
