Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Relational Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our Oracle database environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement database systems to meet business requirements
  • Develop and maintain database security measures to ensure data integrity and confidentiality
  • Optimize database performance to ensure efficient data retrieval and processing
  • Collaborate with the software engineering team to provide support for the Oracle relational database environment
  • Provide consultation on relational database design, implementation, and technical issues to our systems development team
  • Develop and implement database backup and recovery procedures to ensure business continuity
  • Work with the Department's Information Security Officer (ISO) and management to establish policies and procedures for database security
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of application systems databases
  • Identify and resolve relational database problems

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of Oracle database design, administration, utility, and tools
  • Skills in the use of laptop computers and using standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of database systems management, develop Unix scripts, and write/develop database standards and documentation
  • High school graduate or equivalent
