About the Role

As a Peer Supporter at Together for Mental Wellbeing, you will be part of a team that provides crisis support services to individuals experiencing mental distress. Your personal experience of mental distress will be at the heart of your role, and you will use your skills and techniques to support others in a way that is led by them and suits your strengths and skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one planned sessions to help individuals focus on their strengths, set goals, and develop action plans
  • Facilitate peer support groups and self-management groups
  • Identify local services and activities that individuals might want to access and provide support in accessing these
  • Support individuals in preparing to move on from using the service
  • Provide emotional and/or practical support as needed

Requirements
  • Personal experience of mental distress and/or using mental health services
  • Ability to share personal experiences of mental distress and self-management strategies as/when appropriate
  • Passion for empowering individuals experiencing mental distress and promoting peer support and service user leadership
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage in a respectful and non-judgmental way with individuals who use mental health services
