Clinical Specimen Technician

Our team is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to support our laboratory operations. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for facilitating laboratory organization and patient care, working closely with doctors, nurses, and medical laboratory scientists. This role involves ordering and preparing patient samples, delivering specimens to the appropriate department or testing facility, and interacting with patients and clinical staff to provide exceptional customer service.
Estimated Salary: $21.75/hour, with opportunities for advancement and professional growth.
Key Tasks:
This role involves working in a dynamic and engaging laboratory environment, supporting laboratory testing and diagnosis. You will be responsible for accurately labeling, accessing, and processing patient specimens, including tissue, blood, and body fluids. Additionally, you may have opportunities to develop skills such as phlebotomy, laboratory exception handling, and research. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who can recognize factors that may affect testing outcomes and take appropriate action to solve problems. The successful candidate will also be responsible for adhering to all personal protective requirements and maintaining accurate records of their work.
Required Skills:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers (only applicable at sites where LAs perform phlebotomy)
- High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate in English (oral and written)
- Customer service skills
- Ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations
- Ability to take on-call shifts, according to department needs
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Basic computer skills
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, and nights
