Diagnostic Navigator

Job Overview
The Diagnostic Cancer/Interventional Navigator role is crucial in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through the Radiology department. This position is part of a pool of staff who will help cover all Radiology appointments for patients on a cancer pathway. Without sufficient appointment staff, we cannot support day working, which is essential to achieve waiting time KPIs. The post may also help cover the back office, which deals with Radiology results on a rotational basis. This role ensures that the correct referring teams are provided with urgent reports in a timely fashion to make patient treatment decisions.
To support comprehensive and effective patient pathways within the Radiology Directorate, encouraging high standards in all staff by personal example and constructive supervision. To work as part of a team with other disciplines towards shared objectives. The service within the Radiology Directorate serves a population of approximately one million, with a cohort of patients also coming from further afield and performing over 500,000 exams per year across modalities.
Main Duties of the Job
This role will provide support for bookings of all cancer patient pathways seen within Radiology, but may also include inpatient, urgent, diagnostic, and treatment pathways. All of which have individual KPIs that need to be measured. This post will help ensure day turnaround time for cancer patients. Radiology admin also ensure patient's information is up to date and accurate on both Radiology and Trust-wide information systems. They are a further pause in the process for positive patient identification and help to highlight patient ID queries, which supports IRMER compliance.
To work as part of a highly trained and experienced team, exercising initiative and prioritizing workloads while following Government and Directorate set initiatives and policies without direct supervision.
The post holder is responsible, where applicable, for tracking the progress of patients through care services (Radiology and Pathology) and core services (Health Records). They will also be required to liaise with other departments and staff within the Trust and other Trusts involved in providing care and core services to ensure that planned patient treatment progresses smoothly and in a timely manner.
The post holder will also work as a 'buddy.' This will involve building up a working knowledge of the processes and practices in all duties so that they are able to provide a basic level of cover when required.
