Job Role Overview

The Diagnostic Cancer Navigator role is pivotal in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient pathway flow through the Radiology department. As part of a team that covers all Radiology appointments for patients on a cancer pathway, this post is crucial in supporting day working and achieving waiting time Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The role may also involve covering the back office, which deals with Radiology results on a rotational basis, ensuring timely provision of urgent reports to referring teams for patient treatment decisions.

Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive support for bookings of all cancer patient pathways seen within Radiology, as well as inpatient, urgent, diagnostic, and treatment pathways, each with individual KPIs. This post ensures day turnaround time for cancer patients, and Radiology admin maintains patient information accuracy on Radiology and Trust-wide information systems.

The post holder exercises initiative and prioritizes workloads, following Government and directorate-set initiatives and policies without direct supervision. They are responsible for tracking patient progress through care services and core services, liaising with other departments and staff within the Trust and other Trusts involved in providing care and core services.

As a 'buddy', the post holder builds a working knowledge of processes and practices in all duties, providing basic cover when required.
