About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our team at the Institution of Civil Engineers. As a key member of our sales and marketing team, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth and developing strategic partnerships with clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to drive revenue from conferences, meetings, and events
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key business partners, clients, and competitor venues to stay informed on market trends and maximize opportunities
  • Attend and exhibit at trade shows, networking events, and industry forums to promote our institution and generate new business leads
  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager to attract customers through targeted market segmentation and effective sales campaigns
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly sales reports, including market segment comparison and revenue forecasts, to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Support and develop junior sales staff, providing mentoring and guidance to enhance their proactive sales skills and ensure sales targets are met
  • Liaise with the Events and Revenue Management teams to ensure smooth handover of sales bookings and maintain high standards of customer service throughout the client journey
Requirements
  • Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within the events, hospitality, or conference sectors
  • A proactive sales mindset with a focus on achieving and exceeding revenue targets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present professionally to clients and internal stakeholders
  • A passion for delivering exceptional customer service, combined with the ability to understand and respond to client needs
  • A strong understanding of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) market and the ability to stay informed on industry trends and competitor activity
  • Background using Rendezvous, Fidelio, or Delphi diary systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Able to travel when required for trade shows, client meetings, and industry events
