About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Peregrine. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a critical role in the design and development of innovative products.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement mechanical design concepts and solutions from first principles to meet project and customer requirements.
  2. Prepare and present detailed mechanical development plans, design scheme data packs, and other engineering documentation for internal review and customer forums.
  3. Take ownership of design risk and identify, define, and manage work packages to de-risk areas of the product design early in the lifecycle.
  4. Validate and verify requirements using appropriate tools and manage these through the engineering lifecycle.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including technical specialists, to ensure effective design solutions.
  6. Manage the work of senior and junior mechanical engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  7. Complete Design Authority level checks on the work of other mechanical engineers, ensuring adherence to departmental and company policies and procedures.
  8. Support the development of estimates for future design activities and represent the company in presentations and product installation surveys.
Requirements
  1. Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of other qualifications and experience.
  2. Meet the requirements of UK-SPEC at the Chartered Engineer Level.
  3. Comprehensive experience of the full product design lifecycle, from concept through to production, within an engineering environment.
  4. Experience in preparing technical datasets and design review datasets.
  5. Competence in the use of CAD tools to prepare design models.
  6. Desirable: Experience related to areas including avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, electronics packaging, anthropometrics, design with composites, additive layer manufacture, and test and measurement equipment.
  7. A capability to use specialist dynamic, structural, and thermal analysis tools is an advantage, including validation of the output of these tools.
  8. Experience in leading a mechanical or cross-discipline design team.
  9. Existing or previous SC level clearance.
  10. Proficiency in the CREO CAD system and experience using Team Center, DOORs, and JIRA would be advantageous.
