Why Work for HM Revenue and Customs?

As a taxpayer support specialist at HM Revenue and Customs, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals and businesses navigate the tax system. Our mission is to ensure that everyone contributes their fair share towards funding public services like hospitals, schools, and infrastructure projects.

Our team provides expert guidance and support to customers who are struggling to understand tax rules or are facing difficulties paying taxes on time. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in communicating complex ideas simply and empathetically, while building strong relationships with customers from diverse backgrounds.

What You Will Do

You will be responsible for responding to customer inquiries through various channels (phone, email, web chat). This may involve explaining tax policies, assisting with payment queries, or addressing complaints. Your primary objective will be to deliver exceptional customer service, resolve issues promptly, and escalate concerns to relevant teams where necessary.

In addition to these core responsibilities, you may be required to:

  • Create and maintain accurate customer records.
  • Provide personalized support to customers who require special assistance.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions to address recurring customer issues.
Requirements

We seek candidates with outstanding communication and problem-solving skills. You should be comfortable handling sensitive conversations and possess a patient, empathetic approach when dealing with customers under stress. Familiarity with basic mathematics is desirable, but not essential. A genuine interest in taxation and willingness to learn would be advantageous.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, collaborate seamlessly with colleagues, and prioritize continuous improvement. If you're passionate about delivering top-notch customer experiences, we invite you to explore this opportunity further.
