Role Responsibilities

The Senior Pediatric Orthopaedic Nurse Specialist will take the lead in delivering specialized knowledge, clinical expertise, and care for children and young individuals with orthopaedic conditions. This includes overseeing various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as well as providing expert consultation and advice.

You will be accountable for your practice, working autonomously to deliver high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care while adhering to all relevant corporate and local policies and maintaining compliance with Clinical Governance standards.

While much of your work will be independent, you are expected to engage with the broader multi-disciplinary team, which includes specialist orthopaedic surgeons, pediatricians, nursing staff, and therapy professionals.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and management skills, with the flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the service. You must maintain outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, effectively engaging with a diverse range of individuals in a professional manner.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in Children's Nursing (RN Child) or Registered Sick Children's Nurse (RSCN) with valid NMC registration
  • Relevant qualification in the specialty with a minimum of 12 months of experience
  • Mentorship certification
  • Basic/Intermediate Pediatric Life Support certification
  • Experience in audit and research pertinent to the specialty
  • Knowledge of safeguarding protocols, with an up-to-date Level 3 Safeguarding qualification
  • Understanding of clinical governance and risk management

Desirable Qualifications

  • Additional relevant qualifications in the specialty with at least 12 months of experience
  • Further mentorship qualifications
