Band 6 - Senior Pediatric Nursing Specialist

Outpatient and Ambulatory Pediatric Care

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity for a seasoned Pediatric Nurse to become a vital part of our Outpatient and Ambulatory Care team at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust.

Our Outpatient and Ambulatory Care department is characterized by a vibrant and fast-paced clinical atmosphere, dedicated to delivering exceptional care to our young patients and their families. You will experience a stimulating and diverse workload, with the chance to expand your expertise across various specialties.

The primary responsibilities include providing direct patient care while also taking on leadership duties, guiding the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the highest quality of care, and supporting patients and their families throughout their outpatient experience.

We seek a motivated Band 6 nurse to join our Outpatient and Ambulatory Care department. Ideal candidates will possess outstanding communication abilities, a positive demeanor, and a professional attitude. Flexibility in task management, teamwork, and the ability to interact with the public in a courteous and sensitive manner are essential qualities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as a prominent clinical leader and team member, equipped with substantial clinical experience to provide expert guidance to the team and ensure the delivery of high-quality care. They will exemplify best practices in clinical care and lead specific initiatives as directed by senior nursing staff.

In general settings, they will act as the deputy for their manager, overseeing clinical, managerial, and educational responsibilities while being a role model for team members and ensuring high standards of care.

In specialized settings, they will possess a deep level of clinical knowledge and expertise, providing advice and guidance while being recognized as a senior nursing professional.

Responsibilities Include:

Clinical Duties

  • Lead the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality patient care in alignment with Trust values.
  • Oversee complex clinical care for patients within the designated area.
  • Ensure the safe management and administration of medications in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Foster a safe therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff, adhering to infection control guidelines and health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate patient discharges and transfers, ensuring timely and safe processes.
  • Maintain effective patient flow and bed management.
  • Deliver high-quality end-of-life care in accordance with national standards.
  • Provide evidence-based clinical advice to staff and patients as needed.
  • Uphold a thorough understanding of clinical escalation procedures.

Professional Conduct

  • Maintain professionalism and promote a positive image of the Trust at all times.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment that ensures high standards of patient care.
  • Participate in establishing nursing practice standards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures, promoting understanding among staff.
  • Maintain a safe environment, recognizing health and safety requirements for all.
  • Implement and monitor infection control strategies and protocols.

Education and Development

  • Engage in the education of learners within the department.
  • Support preceptorship and mentorship for pre-registration students.
  • Identify and address learning needs within the area.
  • Organize and deliver local training sessions in line with Trust values.
  • Facilitate the development of teaching skills among peers.
  • Participate in annual training needs assessments.
  • Involve in local research projects and clinical trials.
  • Encourage the application of evidence-based practice and research findings.

Management and Leadership

  • Oversee daily staffing arrangements and schedules to ensure safe practice levels.
  • Act as a shift coordinator as required.
  • Ensure adherence to Trust care protocols.
  • Assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the manager.
  • Participate in senior nurse on-call rotations as appropriate.
