Payroll Supervisor Job Description

Sharp Consultancy is a finance and accountancy recruitment specialist assisting accounting and finance divisions of businesses in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire area. We are currently seeking a skilled Payroll Supervisor to join our client's team in Wakefield.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of a small payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll data.
  • Implement and manage monthly payroll for external clients, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and laws.
  • Manage all deductions and statutory compliance, including SSP, SMP, SPP, Tax & NI, to ensure accurate and timely payments.
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable salaries, providing valuable insights for business decision-making.
  • Monitor, calculate, and report on weekly holiday entitlements, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant laws.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing data, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Provide technical payroll information by answering queries from clients, ensuring excellent customer service and support.
  • Reconcile payroll to operational and accounting systems, ensuring accuracy and transparency in financial reporting.
  • Deal with HMRC correspondence enquiries, maintaining a positive and professional relationship with the tax authority.
  • Maintain external employee records in accordance with company policy and GDPR, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
  • Process starters and leavers, ensuring seamless onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Calculate deductions, contractual changes, and bonuses, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
  • Ensure that P45s, P11ds, and P60s are administered correctly, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and laws.
  • Manage and account for all pension contributions, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
  • Act as a key contact with the payroll software provider, ensuring smooth and efficient payroll processing.
Requirements:
  • Prior experience in a Senior/Supervisor level appointment in Payroll, with a proven track record of leadership and management.
  • Management, training, and leadership of Payroll teams previously, with a strong understanding of payroll processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of PAYE, NI deductions, and salary exchange, with a strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong IT skills with good working knowledge of MS Excel, including pivot tables and 'v' look-ups.
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze complex data.
  • Ability to respond to benefits queries processed through the payroll, including pension, healthcare, and childcare vouchers.
