About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Microbiologist to join our team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a Clinical Microbiologist, you will play a crucial role in providing a clinical microbiology service, working alongside consultant colleagues to ensure the provision of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Authorise and liaise laboratory results to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Provide clinical microbiology and virology advice to clinical colleagues to support patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory, infection control, antimicrobial pharmacy, occupational health colleagues, and external partners to ensure seamless care.
  • Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and service improvement.
  • Work on our Wakefield Pinderfields hospital site during weekday working hours, with occasional travel to other sites as required.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • At least four years' full-time postgraduate training in a relevant specialty, with two years' experience in microbiology.
  • Awareness of laboratory skills related to microbiology, virology, and mycology.

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • FRCPath part 1 and 2.
  • MRCP.
  • Clinical research and development experience.
