About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead High Voltage Cable Assurance Specialist to join our team at SSE Enterprise.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment is suitably designed, manufactured, and tested prior to energization. This will involve reviewing manufacturer technical capability assessments, assessing specification compliance, and conducting factory audits.

As part of our network assurance strategy, you will play a key role in enhancing network reliability and ensuring resilience of equipment supply and standardisation of design and construction assurance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and assessing technical specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations;
  • Conducting factory audits and inspections to verify that manufacturers meet required quality standards;
  • Preparing reports to support approval/acceptance of cables and accessory manufacturers' plants;
  • Supporting the Cables Principal Engineer with delegated Technical Authority (TA) tasks, including close out of deviation requests, project advice, and specification updates;

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline, with Chartered Engineer status or working towards it;
  • Demonstrable experience in all aspects of testing of transmission voltage HVAC/HVDC cables and their associated national and international standards;
  • A detailed knowledge and understanding of National Grid, British, and international standards relevant to transmission underground/subsea cables and cable accessories;
  • The ability to technically assess quality issues, problems, and/or faults related to HVAC/HVDC cables;
