Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Transmission Network Manager to join our team at SSE PLC. This is an excellent opportunity to shape the future of the high voltage electrical transmission network in the North of Scotland and contribute to the Transition to Net Zero.

The successful candidate will manage the Development phase of large capital projects involving complex AC substations, HVDC Converter stations and cabling both onshore and offshore. Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating project concepts and assessing feasibility, developing options and initial designs, and driving refinement to a selected option that is consentable, constructable, and commissioned within the agreed budget and programme.
  • Selecting suitable project sites and cable route selection options.
  • Leading the selection and coordination of key suppliers to undertake surveys and studies to inform initial designs.
  • Managing projects through the planning and consenting process, ensuring compliance with regulator, local authority, and statutory requirements.
  • Providing effective management of internal and external interfaces across various project workstreams.
  • Leading multi-discipline project teams, using robust project management systems and techniques to produce key project deliverables up to the construction phase.

Extensive experience in early development phases of large capital projects is required, preferably in the electrical generation/transmission sectors, with a strong understanding of project management systems, risk management, and governance.
