Job Title: Homeless Prevention Specialist

Reports to: Homeless Prevention Coordinator

Salary: Scale 6, Points 26-28, £24,744 - £26,398 per annum, pro rata

Hours of work: Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Job Summary:

The Homeless Prevention Specialist will work with young people at risk of homelessness, providing assessment, support, and advocacy services to prevent homelessness and ensure they have access to safe and stable housing.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Support:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of housing and support needs, identifying risks and developing personalized plans to prevent homelessness.
  • Provide high-quality information, advice, and signposting to young people, ensuring they have access to relevant services and support.
  • Process and triage referrals, working with internal and external partners to ensure timely and effective support.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and professional electronic case records, ensuring data and monitoring systems are up-to-date.

Home Visit and Mediation:

  • Undertake mediation sessions with young people and their families to improve relationships and prevent homelessness.
  • Conduct home visits and accompany young people to appointments, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Develop and implement interventions to ensure positive outcomes for young people and their families.

Advocacy:

  • Advocate on behalf of young people, promoting their rights and interests in relation to benefits, housing, and other support services.
  • Provide guidance and support to young people, ensuring they understand their rights and the decision review process.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • GCSE English and Maths – C Grade and above or equivalent.
  • Experience working with young people in a frontline triage or assessment service.

Desirable:

  • NVQ 3 Advice & Guidance, Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Housing qualification.

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Housing Rights and Welfare Reform Knowledge.
  • Housing Legislation; Housing Act and Homelessness Reduction Act.
  • Knowledge of Children's Act – Section 17, 20 and 47.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Anti-Discriminatory practice.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Social Skills/Job Training Skills.
  • Ability to work with figures.
  • Ability to maintain and improve standards.
