About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Palliative Care Specialist Nurse to join our team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our specialist palliative care team, you will provide expert knowledge, high-quality care, and psychological support to patients and their families requiring specialist palliative care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice and education to patients, relatives, carers, and other healthcare professionals requiring palliative care within the hospital.
  • Autonomously manage a nurse-led caseload according to agreed protocols, using advanced skills in assessing and treating a variety of conditions, including non-malignant and malignant life-limiting conditions.
  • Work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, palliative care, ED, acute medicine, radiology, and pathology to ensure quality and care to the patient is maximised.
  • Develop clinical guidelines, audit, and education programs to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Non-Medical Prescribing (or willing to undertake)
  • Evidence of relevant and recent continuing professional development
  • Teaching and assessing qualification

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Post-registration qualification in palliative care
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Healthcare degree
  • Palliative Care degree
  • Psychological skills training level 2

Essential Experience:

  • Substantial clinical experience in an acute setting
  • Substantial management experience in a specialty or related area at Band 6 or above
  • Participation in service development and implementation of change
  • Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of developing and undertaking audit

Knowledge:

  • Evidence of specialist expertise with underpinning theory
  • Demonstrates knowledge of risk management skills
  • Demonstrates expertise in clinical practice
  • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area and implement recommendations
