Job Summary:

The RN First Assistant functions as a surgical first assistant under the direction of a surgeon during surgery. This role also involves serving as a Registered Nurse, depending on departmental needs.

The ideal candidate will support the mission and values of Mary Washington Healthcare and demonstrate a commitment to quality patient care.

$68,000 - $90,000 Per Year

About the Role:

  1. Assist with procedural setup and patient preparation for various procedures.
  2. Support the surgeon in closing wounds, tying vessels, and performing hemostatic techniques.
  3. Maintain a safe perioperative environment by observing aseptic techniques.
  4. Participate in patient transport and room turnover to optimize service utilization.
  5. Circulate cases and serve as a Registered Nurse as needed.
  6. Provide education, mentorship, and resource support to patients and colleagues.
  7. Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from a surgical first assistant program required.
  • Valid RN license from Virginia or a reciprocal compact state required.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification required.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR certification required at hire.
  • BSN preferred; Associate's Degree in Nursing with a commitment to obtaining BSN within five years required.
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification preferred.
