Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Department of Health and Social Care to develop and implement strategies for public health workforce development in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of integrated local workforce planning and the delivery of education, learning and training opportunities, including Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and placements.
  • Scope and understand public health workforce needs, including understanding workforce numbers, development needs, gaps, succession planning, areas of good practice and resources for workforce development.
  • Identify and support innovation and good practice in workforce development, training and education and ensure these are shared across the region and wider Public Health system.
  • Oversee the public health practitioner programme.
  • Support the Schools of Public Health and other organisations to ensure education and training, and workforce planning fully meet the public health requirements of the regional system.
  • Promote public health training and education to stakeholders to maximise the potential for uptake of specialist, practitioner and wider public health training.
  • Develop and maintain strong and successful working relationships with partner agencies.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level/NVQ 6 in a relevant subject or equivalent experience, including extensive experience of project and/or programme management and organisational change using recognised methodologies.
  • Knowledge of education, training and workforce development approaches and strategies, ideally in the health sector.
  • Experience of working effectively and providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders and senior colleagues across organisational and professional boundaries to deliver improved organisational outcomes.
  • Experience of supporting large scale organisational / cultural change, transition and transformation in a form that achieves tangible benefits.
  • Report and presentation preparation skills for a range of scenarios and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage own workload, working within a multi-disciplinary team including line managing staff at different levels.
  • Ability to negotiate, influence and engage with staff and stakeholders at all levels including the ability to negotiate on difficult and controversial issues including performance and change.
  • Ability to make decisions autonomously, when required, on difficult and contentious issues and to prioritise work, manage competing demands to deliver within set timescales and in a pressurised, fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinking to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise, respond to sudden unexpected demands and analyse complex facts and situations to develop a range of options.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, equality of opportunity and good working relationships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health issues, contemporary challenges in health workforce design and organisational development and design principles within NHS, local and national government structures.
