Stroke Care Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated nurse to join our team and contribute to delivering exceptional care to patients with acute stroke needs. This is a 12-month fixed term cover.
The successful candidate will have significant post-registration experience in acute medicine, excellent nursing skills, and outstanding interpersonal abilities. They will be able to provide expert emergency clinical practice, advice, education, and effective nursing management of people who have experienced stroke.
This role involves providing a specialist stroke service to patients within the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, requiring advanced levels of judgment, decision-making, and discretion. The nurse will stay up-to-date with recent developments in stroke care and management, ensuring high-quality patient-centered care.
The ideal candidate will have awareness of the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP) and understanding of measuring outcomes related to stroke care. They will also be able to communicate effectively with patients and carers, potentially complex, sensitive, or distressing information, to provide patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a specialist stroke service to patients within the acute and rehabilitation phases of their condition.
- Communicate effectively and actively participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to aid patient care, joint treatment sessions, case conferences, and specialist interest group meetings.
- Facilitate the rapid transfer of all stroke and TIA patients requiring admission to the hyper-acute stroke unit (HASU) and foster supportive and positive working relationships with other departments.
