About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Resident Optometrist to join our dynamic Ophthalmology Department at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Resident Optometrist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality clinical services to our patients, working closely with Consultant Ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to provide specialist care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a range of optometry clinical services to the highest standards, including low vision, specialist refraction, and paediatric refraction services.
  • Undertake clinical audit, research, and administrative tasks to support the department's goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with Consultant Ophthalmologists to provide specialist care and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a high standard of care for all patients.
  • Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the management of conditions such as macular disease, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy within hospital services.

Requirements
  • Hold a degree in Optometry (Hons) and be registered with the General Optical Council.
  • Have experience managing a range of ophthalmic conditions and working with adult and paediatric patients.
  • Be able to convey bad news in a sensitive manner and work independently, using initiative where appropriate.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
  • Member of the College of Optometrists.
  • Knowledge of Ocular Therapeutics and working knowledge of Community Optometry Pathways.
