We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated optometrist to join our dynamic and friendly team in the Ophthalmology department.

The role of a Specialist Optometrist is varied and stimulating, with opportunities to work in different clinics, such as glaucoma, medical retina, cornea, and cataract, as well as supporting our core optometric services.

Previous hospital experience is an advantage, but most importantly, candidates will have excellent clinical and communication skills and strive to provide exceptional patient care.

Main Duties of the Job

The position is full-time, but we are a flexible employer and will consider a job share and/or an element of remote working for the right candidate.

About Us

We are a large dynamic ophthalmology department with 16 consultant ophthalmologists and 16 optometrists, including resident, specialist, and advanced clinical optometrists, as well as bank optometrists, each with different roles and responsibilities.

Person Specification
  • General Optical Council registration
  • College of Optometrists' higher qualification in area of clinical specialism (Prof Cert, Higher Cert or equivalent)
  • Member of College of Optometrists
Experience
  • Significant post-qualification optometry experience with exposure to a wide range of ophthalmic conditions
  • Experience teaching and providing clinical supervision
  • Experience working with adult and paediatric patients who are visually impaired & patients with learning disabilities
  • Experience with referral triage
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of visual assessment and investigation techniques used in general and specialist optometry services
  • Broad understanding of the management of specialist optometry patients such as macular disease, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy
Skills
  • Ability to independently assess and make clinical decisions
  • Ability to communicate complex clinical information in a range of situations
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
