Mechanical Engineering Support Specialist

Widener University is seeking a skilled professional to support the School of Engineering's laboratory operations. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Engineering, this role will be part of a team responsible for maintaining various instructional and research engineering laboratories.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain machine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, CNC machines, and welding equipment.
- Assist faculty and students with designing, fabricating, and modifying mechanical components and prototypes.
- Provide technical support and training to students and staff on the use of machine shop tools and equipment.
- Ensure safety compliance by enforcing machine shop safety protocols and conducting regular equipment inspections.
- Manage inventory of materials, tools, and supplies, and coordinate with vendors for purchases and repairs.
- Assemble, set up, and calibrate instruments and supplies in assigned engineering labs.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in assigned labs.
- Support engineering outreach and recruitment activities.
Compensation:
The estimated salary for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in a technical field and two years of relevant experience in engineering or a similar field.
- Experience with engineering testing equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision on multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in the engineering field.
- Previous experience in engineering laboratories.
- Experience with machine shop operations.
